The newspaper “Mundo Deportivo” reported that Barcelona rejected an official offer from Juventus to acquire the services of Ronald Araujo in January.
The Juventus offer included obtaining Araujo on loan until the end of the season, with a mandatory purchase clause worth 40 million euros.
Barca rejected the offer and considered it far from what is required to give up Araujo in the middle of the season.
According to the latest report, Barcelona has set two conditions to change its position on the offer of Juventus or other clubs to sign the Uruguayan defender.
The first condition is that the player clearly announces to the management his desire to leave, and the second condition is that the value of the financial offer is at least 70 million euros.
Joan Laporta’s management classifies Araujo as one of the most important basic players in coach Hansi Flick’s squad, and his departure will not be accepted unless a large sum is obtained through which the Catalan club can compensate its second captain.
Barcelona are aware that waiting until the summer to sell Araujo would reduce his value given that his contract expires in the summer of 2026, however the desire at Camp Nou is for the player to continue in the second half of the season and not lose a player of his quality in the middle of the season.
Araujo has reportedly told Barcelona players that he is seriously considering leaving, with the main reason reportedly being the Blaugrana’s involvement in negotiations with Jonathan Tah and the Uruguayan feeling that he will not be guaranteed a starting spot either this season or in the future.
