Barcelona announced in an official statement that Andreas Christensen suffered an injury during his participation in the Catalan club’s training.
The Danish defender recently returned from the injury that kept him out of the first half of the season, and participated as a substitute against Valencia for 26 minutes in his first appearance with Hansi Flick’s squad.
According to Barcelona’s statement, Christensen injured the right hamstring muscle during Monday’s training session.
Barcelona set Christensen’s absence for at least three weeks, which is a blow both on the technical and marketing levels.
Barcelona did not mind the 28-year-old leaving this winter, but with his injury it is no longer logical that any club will try to buy him before the end of the current season.
Thus, the only option that can provide space to conclude a winter contract for Barça is the departure of Ansu Fati, which is difficult to achieve given the Spanish international’s insistence on continuing at Camp Nou.
It remains to be noted that Christensen’s absence for three weeks will leave Barcelona without Atalanta in the Champions League, Alaves, Sevilla and Rayo Vallecano in La Liga, as well as the match against Valencia in the quarter-finals of the King’s Cup.
