Steven Gerrard leaves Al-Ettifaq coaching

Al-Ettifaq management reached an agreement with Steven Gerrard to leave the team due to poor results.

The Saudi club has fallen significantly this season in the Roshen League standings, collecting only 19 points from the first 17 matches to be in 12th place, just 5 points away from the relegation zone.

Al-Ettifaq has been holding on to Gerrard as the club’s project leader for two years, to the point that he prevented the coach from resigning last summer and officials convinced him to continue.

According to Saudi media, Gerrard requested to step down from coaching Al-Ettifaq, and his request was accepted this time after the management saw that there was no way to improve the results except by ending the adventure with the English legend.

The two parties agreed to terminate the contract extending until 2027 by mutual consent, with Al-Ettifaq paying part of the stipulated penalty clause.

Reports indicate that Saudi coach Ahmed Al-Maliki, who currently supervises the club’s youth categories, will temporarily succeed Gerrard in coaching Al-Ettifaq.
