Flick ends the debate: This is Barcelona’s starting goalkeeper for the rest of the season

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has ended the debate over who will guard Barcelona’s goal in the remaining matches until the end of the season.

Since Ter Stegen’s injury, Iñaki Peña has been the Blaugrana’s starting goalkeeper, until he was excluded from the Copa del Rey semi-final against Athletic Bilbao for disciplinary reasons.

Since then, Szczesny has played more in the matches, so the question that Flick is asked before every match is who will be Barça’s goalkeeper.

Before the Alavés match, Flick was asked about the matter again, to respond decisively and announce that Szczesny is Barcelona’s first goalkeeper until the end of the current season.

The German coach’s decision to consider the Pole as Barça’s first goalkeeper may affect the renewal negotiations with Iñaki Peña, whose contract at Camp Nou expires in the summer of 2025.

The young goalkeeper wanted to continue with the Catalan club, but now that he is back playing the role of substitute goalkeeper, he may decide to leave for another club where he can guarantee regular participation.

This season, Szczesny has played in 6 matches in all competitions, conceding 8 goals and keeping only 2 clean sheets.

As for Peña, 25, he has played 22 matches since Ter Stegen’s injury, conceding 25 goals and keeping only 6 clean sheets.
