Real Madrid announced that David Alaba has suffered a new injury that will keep him off the field for a period of time.
The Austrian international returned to participate with Real in mid-January after more than a year during which he was absent due to a torn cruciate ligament.
According to a statement by the Merengue on Tuesday, Alaba was injured in the adductor muscle of the left thigh.
Real did not specify the duration of Alaba’s absence, but the Spanish media expect it to range between two to three weeks depending on the speed of his recovery.
Alaba’s injury will leave Real in a real predicament, as it comes days after Antonio Rudiger’s injury, which will keep him out of the field for 20 days.
Thus, Real Madrid only has Raul Asensio as the only option in the center-back position to face the difficult period that awaits the Merengue over the next two weeks.
Carlo Ancelotti will likely promote center-backs from the youth team, and he also plans to rely on Fede Valverde and Ferland Mendy in this position.
