Liverpool coach Arne Slot has raised concerns among Red fans after saying that the club must prepare for the possibility of Mohamed Salah’s departure at the end of the current season.
English reports had said that Salah and Virgil van Dijk were very close to signing new contracts, but Slot denied these reports with his statements before the Tottenham match on Thursday.
The Dutchman said in response to questions about Salah’s renewal, “We have some contractual situations that you may not know about. But Trent, Mo and Virgil have not extended their contracts yet.”
He also added, “We are well aware that we have to be careful and ready for things that can happen (the departure of the trio or one of them).”
He concluded, “We have to be ready for the next transfer market and what we can do during it.”
It is most likely that Trent Alexander-Arnold will not remain with Liverpool after reaching an agreement with Real Madrid, while Salah has exciting offers from Saudi Arabia that make the possibility of him continuing with the Reds much less likely than Virgil van Dijk.
