A Spanish court has rejected an appeal by Real Madrid defender Raul Asensio to end the investigation into his alleged role in distributing a sex video of a minor.
The media department of the Canary Islands Supreme Court said in a statement on Tuesday that the court had confirmed the decision to continue the investigation and rejected Asensio’s defense team’s request to dismiss the case.
Asensio is accused of circulating a video of a minor among his teammates and the player claims he was in another area with another girl.
Asensio’s charges do not stop there, but rather amount to the crime of exploiting children in pornography, which is punishable by a prison sentence of between one and five years if he shows the video to a third party.
Police said the mother of a 16-year-old girl in the Canary Islands filed a complaint about the recording of an alleged sexual relationship. She did not consent to her being filmed.
Asensio has featured regularly for Real Madrid’s first team this season after the team suffered a series of injuries to senior defenders, and the royal club is in the process of renewing his contract for another 5 years.
