Officially.. Zamalek dismisses Gross and announces his replacement

Zamalek dismissed its Swiss coach Christian Gross after only 13 matches in charge of the White Castle, due to poor performance.

Gross succeeded Jose Gomez in training Zamalek in late December, and continued in his position for only 69 days.

During that period, Zamalek suffered only two defeats with Gross from Pyramids and Modern Sport, while achieving 9 wins and 3 draws.

However, the performance was not entirely convincing for either the management or the fans, and a number of players complained about Gross for various reasons.

Ultimately, Hussein Labib’s management settled on dismissing Gross just one week before the summit match against Al-Ahly, and paid him $210,000 as the value of the penalty clause in his contract.

At the same time, the Egyptian club appointed Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro as the new coach to succeed Gross.

Peseiro will receive $70,000 per month, and has signed a contract that will keep him as coach at Mit Okba until the summer of 2026.

Peseiro’s first match with Zamalek will be against Petrojet next Sunday, and then he will lead the White Knight against Al-Ahly on February 22 in the summit.

It is worth noting that Peseiro previously led Al-Ahly in 2015, and his last experience was with the Nigerian national team, where he led it to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
