Tunisian star Hannibal Mejbri confirmed that he was subjected to racism during his participation with Burnley in the match against Preston North End in the English Premier League.
The incident dates back to the 56th minute when Mejbri clashed with Milutin Osmaic and the latter directed some words to the Tunisian, which made him rush to the referee and demand that the game be stopped and the opposing player be punished.
After the match, Mejbri said on his Instagram account in a post in which he narrated what happened and said, “I will not remain silent about what happened today, I will condemn racism every time I hear or see it, as this is the only way to change sports and society.”
He also added, “I am a strong person, but no one should go through disgusting abuse like what happened on the field.”
As for Preston, the English club denied the matter in an official statement, confirming that after speaking with Osmaic, he completely denied what Hannibal was saying.
The Tunisian Football Federation issued a statement condemning the racism against Mejbri and calling for strict measures to be taken against Osamic and Preston.
