The newspaper “AS” revealed that the Spanish Football Federation is considering dismissing the head of the referees committee, Medina Cantalejo, due to recent events.
Real Madrid had issued a strongly worded statement against the referees, and its officials went to the federation’s headquarters on Monday to discuss the disastrous refereeing decisions in the past period.
Due to the great pressure, the idea of a comprehensive change in the referees committee is currently being circulated among the Spanish Federation officials in order to calm things down until the end of the season.
The main idea currently is to dismiss Cantalejo and appoint the famous referee Mateo Lahoz instead of him, in addition to a change that includes all members of the committee.
The Spanish Federation hopes that with this change the level of referees will improve, especially since Real Madrid is not the only one who complained about the refereeing, but almost all La Liga clubs.
The decision is still being discussed within the corridors of the Spanish Federation, but according to “AS” it is supposed to be implemented within a short period.
