Liverpool manager Arne Slot has announced the absence of one of the Reds’ most important stars this season from Wednesday’s match against Aston Villa due to injury.
The Dutch coach revealed in the press conference before the match that Cody Gakpo had suffered a recurrence of the injury, and he will be out for a relatively long period.
Gakpo did not participate against Wolverhampton last Sunday due to an injury that was said to be non-serious, then returned to training again and there he was injured again.
Slot said about that, “When Cody returned from injury, he entered a sprint race and the injury recurred, he will be away from the team for a while and we will see what happens.”
He also added, “It is very difficult for a player at any time of the season, especially at the moment.”
Gakpo has succeeded in transforming into a regular player this season, and won the Liverpool Player of the Month award in January, and in total he contributed 21 goals by scoring 21 and making 5 others in 35 matches in all competitions.
Meanwhile, Slot confirmed that Joe Gomez is unlikely to play again this season and is likely to undergo surgery on his hamstring.
Liverpool are seven points clear of Arsenal at the top of the Premier League ahead of their visit to Aston Villa at Villa Park in round 26.
