Mundo Deportivo reported that Barcelona lost the race to sign Alexander Isak next summer, before it even started.
The Catalan club showed interest in signing the Swedish international to succeed Robert Lewandowski, and the player himself was said to have welcomed the move to Camp Nou.
According to the latest report, the Catalans’ chances of landing Isak have become close to impossible, due to economic reasons.
Isak is on the radar of several major European clubs who are willing to meet Newcastle’s economic demands, while Barcelona will never be able to pay 150 million euros to sign the player.
At the same time, Barcelona need Isak to sacrifice in order to sign him, as he currently earns 18 million euros, a salary that Barcelona cannot meet in the next stage.
The only chance for Barcelona to change the situation is to sell a number of players in the summer, and then reach the 1:1 rule and from there they can get relatively close to what it takes to get the 25-year-old.
It remains to be noted that the Spanish media previously said that the trend within Barcelona is not to sign a new striker in the summer, and to rely on Robert Lewandowski for another year.
