Bayern Munich came close to reaching the quarter-finals of the 2025 Champions League after crushing its guest Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in the first leg of the round of 16 at the Allianz Arena.
The lead came early through Harry Kane in the ninth minute, then Jamal Musiala scored the second goal in the 54th minute, before the Englishman scored his second goal and the third for the Bavarians from a penalty kick in the 75th minute.
There is no doubt that this victory has great value, as it ends Xabi Alonso’s superiority over the Bavarians, which has extended over two and a half seasons.
Leverkusen, led by Alonso, met Bayern 6 times, the pharmaceutical factory club won 3 of them and drew 3 times.
Leverkusen had already eliminated Bayern Munich from the German Cup earlier this season at the Allianz Arena, beating them 1-0, in addition to two Bundesliga matches that ended in a 1-1 draw and a goalless draw in the second round.
Alonso and his team must now make a historic comeback in the second leg at the BayArena last week to reach the quarter-finals.
The winner of this match will meet the winner of the Feyenoord-Inter match in the quarter-finals, knowing that the Nerazzurri won the first leg in the Netherlands 2-0.
