Cole Palmer’s perfect penalty record came to an end on Sunday when goalkeeper Mads Hermansen saved his spot-kick during Chelsea’s Premier League clash with Leicester City.
Hermansen’s save from the 22-year-old’s low shot was a fine one, diving to his left to keep out Palmer’s shot after the Blues won a penalty after Jadon Sancho was fouled.
Palmer had the best penalty-kicking record in Premier League history before his save at Stamford Bridge.
His record was 12 from 12 penalties, putting him ahead of Premier League legends Yaya Toure (11 from 11) and Dimitar Berbatov (nine from nine).
The England international has struggled for form of late, failing to score in his last eight games in all competitions and missing a string of clear chances during that period.
In total, Palmer scored 27 goals and provided 15 assists in his impressive debut season last term.
Before his missed penalty, Palmer was one of only two players to have a 100% penalty conversion rate in the last five Premier League seasons – the other being Callum Wilson.
