UEFA Considers Changing Laws of the Game Due to Alvarez’s Penalty Kick!

UEFA has issued a statement following the controversy surrounding Julian Alvarez’s penalty kick during Real Madrid’s Champions League victory over Atlético Madrid.

The VAR had previously ruled out Julian Alvarez’s penalty kick due to a double touch. UEFA has now issued an update on the situation and confirmed that the rule may be amended.

The statement read: “Atlético de Madrid has inquired with UEFA about the incident that led to the penalty kick taken by Julian Alvarez being ruled out at the end of the Champions League match between Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid. Although minimal, the player touched the ball with his standing foot before taking it.”

It added: “UEFA will hold discussions with FIFA and FIFA to determine whether the rule should be reviewed in cases where the double touch was clearly unintentional.”

Alvarez’s penalty kick was a major factor in Atletico Madrid’s loss and exit from the competition in the round of 16, which caused coach Diego Simeone to express his extreme anger when he spoke to reporters after the match about the unfairness of this legal rule.
