One Real Madrid player called up, Barcelona trio left out of Spain squad

Spain coach Luis de la Fuente has announced his squad for the two UEFA Nations League quarterfinal matches against the Netherlands.

The squad includes one Real Madrid player, center-back Raúl Asensio, who will be wearing the La Roja shirt for the first time.

The squad also includes Pau Coparsi, Iñigo Martínez, Marc Casado, Pedri, Lamine Yamal, Dani Olmo, and Ferran Torres from Barcelona.

Somewhat surprising was De la Fuente’s decision to leave out Gavi, Alejandro Balde, and Fermin López, despite their impressive performances for the Blaugrana in recent months.

One of the surprises De la Fuente made was leaving out Isco, who has been brilliant for Real Betis, as well as Dejan Huijsen, a highly-rated Premier League center-back for Bournemouth.

De la Fuente’s selections for Spain’s squad for the two matches against the Netherlands are as follows:

Defenders: Óscar Mingueza (Celta Vigo), Pedro Porro (Tottenham), Le Normand (Atlético Madrid), Pau Coparsi (Barcelona), Iñigo Martínez (Barcelona), Marc Cucurella (Chelsea), Raúl Asensio (Real Madrid), Alejandro Grimaldo (Bayer Leverkusen).

Midfielders: Martín Zubimendi (Real Sociedad), Fabián Ruiz (Paris Saint-Germain), Mikel Merino (Arsenal), Alex Baena (Villarreal), Marc Casado (Barcelona), Pedri (Barcelona).
