Ter Stegen dreams of a Courtois scenario… but!

Marc-André ter Stegen’s return to Barcelona training is closer than ever, and the German goalkeeper’s ambitions are sky-high.

According to Sport, Ter Stegen will return to group training in just three weeks, so he’ll be ready to participate in matches in the final month of the season.

Ter Stegen dreams of repeating the scenario of Thibaut Courtois, Real Madrid’s goalkeeper, who suffered a cruciate ligament injury last season and was sidelined for a long time. Upon his return, he participated in the Champions League final against Dortmund.

The path to the final appears largely paved for Barça. If they advance past Dortmund in the quarter-finals, they will face either Bayern Munich or Inter Milan. While the match will be difficult, it seems within the Blaugrana’s grasp.

The German goalkeeper wants to play some domestic matches in La Liga to prepare, as Courtois did, and then he’ll be ready to participate in the Champions League final at the Allianz Arena.

But a major obstacle makes this dream almost impossible.

The talk here is that Barcelona removed Ter Stegen from the Champions League squad to make room for Szczesny’s registration. The only way for the German to participate is to remove the Pole from the European squad.

Barcelona’s management does not intend to do this out of respect for Szczesny after his impressive performances this season. They also have great confidence in him, and he remains the preferred choice for both Hansi Flick and Joan Laporta to play in the final if the Catalans succeed in reaching it.
