Official: De Bruyne Announces Departure from Manchester City

Kevin De Bruyne has announced the end of his career with Manchester City when his contract expires next June, after nine years at the Etihad Stadium.

There has been much debate surrounding De Bruyne’s future, due to his frequent injuries and the significant offers he has received from the Saudi League over the past two years.

With City’s sharp decline this season, it has been reported that Pep Guardiola is preparing for a major reshuffle next summer that will include the dismissal of the old guard, most notably De Bruyne.

On Friday, De Bruyne issued a statement announcing that he had had enough of what he had achieved with City over the past few years, and that the time had come to end this historic career.

In his message to the fans, the Belgian said, “Whether we like it or not, the time has come to say goodbye. My family and I are incredibly grateful to this city, and Manchester will remain engraved on our children’s passports and, more importantly, in all of our hearts.”

He added, “The decision wasn’t easy, but it’s inevitable for any footballer.”

The 32-year-old has made 31 appearances for City this season in all competitions, scoring four goals and providing seven assists.

Over his nine years in the blue shirt, De Bruyne has made 413 appearances, scoring 106 goals and providing 174 assists, winning six Premier League titles, including the historic Champions League title in 2022.
