UEFA Bans Mbappé and Rüdiger… But!

UEFA has cleared Real Madrid players Antonio Rüdiger and Kylian Mbappé to participate in next week’s Champions League quarter-final first leg against Arsenal.

UEFA opened an investigation last week into the conduct of Rüdiger and teammates Mbappé, Vinicius Junior, and Dani Ceballos during their team’s penalty shootout victory over Atlético Madrid in the Champions League on March 12.

Camera cameras captured Rüdiger making a slashing gesture towards Atlético fans, while Mbappé grabbed his private parts during his team’s celebrations.

UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body on Friday found Rüdiger and Mbappé guilty of “violation of the basic rules of decent behavior” and handed both players one-match suspensions, suspended for one year.

In addition to the suspension, Rüdiger was fined €40,000, with another €30,000 for Mbappé and €20,000 for Dani Ceballos.

Real Madrid will miss the match against Arsenal due to card accumulation, while Ceballos, Dani Carvajal, Éder Militao, and Andriy Lunin are out due to injury.
