Officially: The first clubs to be relegated from the Premier League in 2025

Southampton were officially relegated from the Premier League following their 3-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at Spurs Stadium on Sunday in round 31.

Brennan Johnson put Tottenham ahead in the 13th minute, and James Maddison doubled the lead three minutes before halftime.

Matheus Fernandes scored a consolation goal for Southampton, and Mathias Tel’s last-minute winner officially sealed the Saints’ relegation.

The St. Mary’s team’s tally remains at just 10 points from 31 matches, having won just two, lost 25, and drawn four of their 31 Premier League matches.

Southampton made Premier League history, but through the back door, becoming the earliest team to be relegated from the competition, with seven games remaining.

There are two remaining Premier League relegation spots, and they appear to have been largely decided for Leicester City (17 points) and Ipswich Town (20 points), while Wolverhampton Wanderers (32 points) are in 17th place.

It’s worth noting that Southampton, Leicester City, and Ipswich Town were all promoted from the Premier League last season.
