Gabonian player Aaron Boupendza died in China after falling from the 11th floor of a building.
Boupendza was involved in a legal dispute with Zamalek after signing a contract with the Whites last summer, then breached it and moved to Romanian club Rapid Bucharest.
Zamalek filed a lawsuit against the player at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) a few months ago to protect his rights.
Boupendza was known for his numerous off-field crises, even leaving Rapid Bucharest just three months after his transfer due to his absence from training and a dispute with the club’s management.
The 29-year-old Gabonese player moved to Chinese club Zhejiang Jiangsu last January for $1 million.
The player had disappeared from view in recent days, failing to show up for training, and his club was unable to reach him. They were informed of his fall from the 11th-floor balcony of a building.
Chinese police are currently investigating the incident to determine whether it was a suicide or murder, especially given the numerous disputes between him and his brother, who was with him shortly before the incident.
The player has a distinguished career, having played for Bordeaux in France and Hatayspor in Turkey. He also previously shone in Qatar with Al-Arabi and in Saudi Arabia with Al-Shabab.
