The injury curse continues to haunt Manchester United, and the latest injury blow is Joshua Zirkzee, whose season is over.
The Dutch international was injured in the recent 4-1 defeat to Newcastle United in the Premier League.
From the first moment, Zirkzee’s injury seemed serious, a statement confirmed by Ruben Amorim after the match, and he reiterated it in the press conference for the second leg of the Europa League quarter-final against Lyon.
The Portuguese coach said Zirkzee’s season was over due to his hamstring injury, and indicated that he would look for younger options to replace him in attack.
Zirkzee’s injury represents a major blow to United, as the player is finally starting to perform at the level he hoped for after suffering harsh criticism at the start of the season for his poor performances.
The 23-goal striker has scored only seven goals this season, although he did score in United’s 2-2 draw with Lyon in the first leg last Thursday.
Zirkzee joins a long list of injuries to the English club, which includes Lisandro Martinez, Matthijs de Ligt, Jonny Evans, and Amad Diallo.
