Real Sociedad Announces New Coach After Alguacil’s Departure

Real Sociedad has appointed reserve team coach Sergio Francisco as first-team coach, succeeding Imanol Alguacil.

Alguacil surprised everyone by deciding to leave Sociedad at the end of the current season after a historic career at Anoeta.

Many names were considered to replace Alguacil, but in the end, the Sociedad management opted for a coach with a deep understanding of the club’s inner workings.

Francisco, 48, has been working with Real Sociedad’s youth teams since 2016 and was promoted to coach the reserve team in 2022, succeeding Xabi Alonso.

The 48-year-old will have a difficult task succeeding Alguacil, who has a great legacy at Anoeta.

Alguacil took over as coach of Sociedad in 2018, winning the Copa del Rey and returning the team to the Champions League, reaching the round of 16, the club’s best performance in history.

Real Sociedad is ranked tenth in La Liga, but still maintains hopes of qualifying for a continental competition next season.

Arab media outlets have reported significant interest from Saudi league clubs in signing Al-Jawasil next season.
