Al-Ahly succeeded in defeating Zamalek 2-0, winning the 2023 Egypt Cup title and announcing that Marcel Kohler’s squad had won the historic treble.
Everyone was looking for the best player in the match award, after the Saudi Entertainment Authority, which organizes the Cairo Derby in Riyadh, announced a $50,000 prize for whoever would be the “man of the match.”
In the end, Imam Ashour received the award, in honor of his great efforts in leading the Red Giants to achieve the cup title for the 39th time in history.
Imam Ashour scored a goal in the 85th minute, then made the second goal for Mohamed Magdy “Afsha” in the last minute.
Ashour joined Al-Ahly last summer after only 6 months spent in Denmark with the Maitland team, to which he moved after a busy career with Zamalek.
Now the 24-year-old can enjoy victory against his former club as well as a bonus worth up to £2.5m as the Derby’s man.
