The draw for the quarter-finals of the African and Confederation Champions League was held on Tuesday evening in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, and resulted in fiery confrontations for Arab clubs.
It was the beginning of the Confederation draw, which dropped Zamalek against its compatriot Modern Future, while Morocco’s Nahdet Berkane will meet Libya’s Abu Salim.
As for the defending champion, USM Algiers, they have a task ahead of them that seems within reach against Rivers United of Nigeria, and the last matches of this round will be between Stade de Mali and Dreams of Ghana.
The draw also determined the fate of the semi-finals, where the winner from Zamalek and Future will meet the winner from Dreams and the Financial Stadium, and there is an expected Arab semi-final between the winner from Nahdet Berkane and Abu Salim with the winner from USM and Rivers United.
The first leg of the Confederation Cup quarter-finals will be held on March 31, while the second leg will be on April 7.
In the African Champions League, Al-Ahly, the defending champion, will meet Tanzania’s Simba, and Congo’s Mazembe will meet Angola’s Petro Atletico.
Esperance faces a difficult match with ASEC Mimosas, while Sun Downs meets with Young Africans of Tanzania.
The first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals will be held on March 29 and 30, with the return matches being held on April 5 and 6.
