AS newspaper reported that Real Madrid management had concluded an agreement with the duo Nacho Fernandez and Lucas Vazquez to renew their contracts at the Royal Club for another year.
The Spaniards’ contract expires at the end of the current season, and despite their advanced age, coach Carlo Ancelotti is impressed by what they are offering and asked the management to extend their stay at the Santiago Bernabeu.
According to the newspaper close to Real Madrid, the two players agreed to extend the contract, and completed the agreement with Florentino Perez’s management regarding all the financial details.
It is scheduled – according to the report – that the renewal step for Nacho, 34 years old, and Vasquez, 32 years old, will be officially announced next week, specifically after the match with Athletic Bilbao.
Real Madrid will meet Bilbao next Sunday after two weeks of absence due to the international break, then the Merengue will rest for more than a week and then play the Manchester City match in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals.
Renewing the contracts of Nacho and Vasquez is the third successful step taken by Real Madrid management this season, after reaching an agreement with Toni Kroos also to renew it for another year.
It remains to be noted that Real Madrid’s policy in dealing with its older players is to renew for one year only, while assuring them of the possibility of renewing again provided they perform well, as was the case with Luka Modric, for example.
