A big blow.. Real Madrid announces Vinicius Junior’s injury

The injury curse continues to haunt Real Madrid, and this time it strikes its first star Vinicius Junior.

The royal club announced in an official statement that the Brazilian star was injured during his participation in the Leganes match on Sunday, which ended with Real winning 3-0.

According to Real Madrid’s statement, Vinicius underwent examinations on Monday morning and it was confirmed that he had an injury to the biceps femoris muscle in his left leg.

The statement did not announce the duration of the player’s absence, but Spanish newspapers expect that Vinicius will be away from the stadiums for at least 3 weeks.

The 24-year-old’s current goal is to catch up with the Intercontinental Cup final, scheduled to be held on December 18 at Lusail Stadium in the Qatari capital, Doha.

Thus, Vinicius is certain to miss the upcoming Liverpool match on Wednesday at Anfield in the Champions League, as well as Atalanta, in addition to the matches against Getafe, Athletic Bilbao, Girona and Rayo Vallecano in La Liga.

Vinicius will join Real Madrid’s already-stretching injury list, which includes Eder Militao, Dani Carvajal, David Alaba, Lucas Vazquez, Rodrygo and Aurelien Tchouameni.

But at the same time, this injury could be particularly beneficial for Kylian Mbappé, as coach Carlo Ancelotti will finally count on him in his preferred position on the left wing rather than as a striker.

Vinicius remains Real Madrid’s top goal scorer this season with 20 goals, having scored 12 and provided eight assists in 12 games in all competitions.
