Arsenal received a big blow, after the sporting director Edu decided to leave the Gunners in the coming days.
Edu has been the backbone of the Gunners’ success in recent years and since his arrival at the club in July 2019.
Edu started working at Arsenal as a technical director, then was promoted in 2022 after his major role in structuring the club to become the sporting director and the first man in everything inside the Emirates Stadium.
The Brazilian was the reason for contracting with Mikel Arteta, concluding many deals and leading the London club’s project and transforming it from a club suffering sportingly to a competitor in the Premier League in the last two years.
According to the Daily Mail, Edu was satisfied with what he achieved with Arsenal and wants to start a new page, and has already discussed and informed club officials of his decision to leave.
The date of Edu’s departure from Arsenal is still unknown, as he may stay until the end of the season or leave immediately or next January.
The Daily Mail pointed out that Edu’s departure from Arsenal came as a personal decision and not as a result of a conflict between him and Arteta or anyone within the club’s management.
Because of his decision, Arsenal will have to restructure the management again in the coming period, which raises great concerns about stability in the club.
It is worth noting that Arsenal this season does not appear as hoped for, as it occupies fifth place in the Premier League standings, 7 points behind leaders Liverpool.
