Zamalek’s crises are complete, after losing to Modern Sport 1-0 on Thursday, one of its most important stars suffered a severe injury that ended his season.
According to Egyptian media, Hamza Al-Mathlouthi suffered a cruciate ligament tear, which caused him to leave the Modern Sport match in the last quarter of an hour.
This injury represents a big blow to Zamalek, especially since Mahmoud Hamdi Al-Wensh cannot be relied upon in all matches due to his physical condition, which leaves the team with one central defender, Hossam Abdel-Majeed.
It is assumed that Al-Mathlouthi’s injury will prompt the Zamalek management to sign at least one central defender before the end of the current winter transfer period.
Coach Christian Gross was forced to rely on Ahmed Fattouh, the left back, in the central defense against Modern Sport after Al-Mathlouthi’s injury, which was later the reason for the guests’ winning goal at Cairo International Stadium.
It is noteworthy that Zamalek occupies the third place in the Egyptian League standings, 3 points behind the leader, Pyramids, and 2 points behind the runner-up, Al-Ahly.
