A Big Surprise in Egypt’s Squad for Ethiopia and Sierra Leone Matches

Hossam Hassan, Egypt’s national team coach, announced his squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia and Sierra Leone.

The biggest surprise in the squad was the absence of the Egyptian Premier League’s top scorer and Al Ahly player, Imam Ashour, by technical decision of the coach.

Also absent was Nasser Mansi, Zamalek’s top scorer and the second-highest scorer in the Egyptian Premier League. It is unknown whether Hassan did not select him or whether his absence is due to a recent injury.

The latest addition to the Pharaohs’ squad is goalkeeper Abdel Aziz El-Belouti, who will be Egypt’s fourth goalkeeper after Mohamed El-Shenawy, Mohamed Awad, and Mostafa Shobeir.

Egypt will face Ethiopia on March 21 and Sierra Leone on March 25.

Egypt currently leads Group A of the qualifiers with 10 points, four points ahead of second-place Guinea-Bissau.
