Brazil’s tally reached 5 points from a single win over Paraguay and two draws with Colombia and Costa Rica, compared to 7 points for Colombia in the lead.
By occupying second place, the Brazilian national team will meet the Uruguay national team, the leader of Group C, in the quarter-finals of the Copa America, in a meeting that can be called a “premature final.”
Uruguay topped its group standings with a full score after defeating Panama, America and Bolivia. Coach Marcelo Bielsa’s squad also scored 9 goals and conceded only one goal.
Perhaps Brazil’s suffering against Uruguay will double after the suspension of Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior was confirmed.
Vinicius, 24, received a yellow card, his second in the group stage, during the match against Colombia on Wednesday morning, and thus he will not be able to participate against Uruguay.
