The newspaper “Sport” reported that the former Juventus goalkeeper, Szczesny, is ready to return to the football fields in order to wear the Barcelona shirt.
Szczesny had announced his retirement after his contract with Juventus ended last season, and negotiations to join the Saudi League failed.
“Sport” says, quoting Polish media, that Szczesny welcomes reversing his decision to retire in order to play for a season with Barcelona.
The Catalan club is looking for a new goalkeeper after Ter Stegen was injured and confirmed to be absent for the rest of the season, and there is only young goalkeeper Inaki Pena.
Barcelona can sign a goalkeeper and add him to its list instead of Ter Stegen by October 22 at the latest, but waiting until January will mean the possibility of not registering him due to the rules of financial fair play.
Szczesny’s name has emerged alongside several other names, most notably former Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas, as options on the table for Joan Laporta’s management to replace Stegen.
In practical terms, Szczesny seems to be the strongest option among all the names put forward, as he played for two elite European teams, Arsenal and Juventus, in addition to his extensive experience with the Polish national team.
