French club Marseille announced, through its president, Pablo Longoria, that it had withdrawn from the idea of signing Paul Pogba on a free transfer this season, citing his physical condition.
Pogba was under contract with Juventus, but the Italian club refused to allow him to return after the suspension was lifted and the contract was terminated by mutual consent. The player was expected to return to the pitch quickly, but the opposite happened.
Pogba’s suspension was lifted at the beginning of March after his four-year doping ban was reduced, but he has yet to join a new club.
Marseille was interested in Pogba, according to Longoria, but the decision was made to reject him. He said, “We have decided not to sign Pogba as a free agent this season.”
He added, “We spoke with Pogba, but we realized that the length of his physical recovery could negatively impact the team’s balance.”
The French international is currently based in Miami, USA, and a move to a club in the United States or an Arab club appears to be the most likely option for him at the moment.
