Arsenal has suffered a major blow, as it is almost certain that they will lose one of their most prominent stars in their two Champions League quarter-final matches against Real Madrid.
This concerns central defender Riccardo Calafiori, who suffered a sprain and bruise to his left knee while playing for Italy against Germany in the first leg of the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals.
Calafiore returned to London in the past few hours to undergo further medical tests to determine the severity of the sprain and the expected length of his absence.
Unfortunately for Arsenal, the injured knee was the site of another injury the player suffered years ago, when ligament tears were sustained there. This will make his recovery from the current sprain and bruise slower than normal, and everyone should be careful.
According to the newspaper “AS,” initial tests indicate that Calafiori will need at least a month to recover from his injury, and thus he will not participate in the two Real Madrid matches.
Arsenal have now lost hope of the Italian international’s participation in the first leg at the Santiago Bernabéu, but there is still some hope that he will be available for the return leg at the Emirates Stadium on April 16.
It is worth noting that Calafiori has made 26 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring three goals and assisting two others.
