Marca revealed a major surprise when it revealed that two Premier League legends had offered their services to Real Madrid, but Florentino Pérez’s administration rejected them.
The duo are Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk and Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne. Both of their contracts expire at the end of this season, meaning their transfer to Real Madrid would have been free.
Real Madrid’s refusal to sign either of them is due to age. Van Dijk is 33, and De Bruyne is the same age. Perez and his entourage are reluctant to sign senior players, preferring to sign players who represent the future of Los Blancos.
Real Madrid will undoubtedly try to sign a center-back next summer, but their priority is a young defender. As for De Bruyne, the club realizes that the midfield position is overcrowded and unnecessarily lacking, not to mention his recent decline due to numerous injuries.
Van Dijk is currently most likely to move to Paris Saint-Germain or renew his contract with Liverpool, while De Bruyne is expected to stay with City until the 2026 World Cup.
