It is almost certain that Ronald Araujo will stay with Barcelona, not only until the end of the season, but for a long time.
The Uruguayan international informed Barça of his decision not to leave this winter after a long meeting with sporting director Deco, and now a new development will keep him at Camp Nou for a long time.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Araujo is very close to signing a new long-term contract with Barcelona.
The Blaugrana management reached an initial agreement with Araujo and his agent regarding the renewal, and all that remains is to hold a final meeting to decide the matter once and for all.
The agreement is expected to be formalized after this meeting, and Araujo will remain with Barcelona at least until the summer of 2029.
It is still unknown whether Barcelona has convinced Araujo to include a $1 billion release clause as is customary, or whether they will move to another release clause that gives the player the freedom to move in the future for an amount that could reach 100 million euros.
It is worth noting that Juventus made an official offer to Barcelona of 50 million euros to buy Araujo, then made another improved offer of 70 million euros, but Joan Laporta’s management rejected both.
