A new crisis has erupted between La Liga and Real Madrid, this time due to Javier Tebas’s refusal to provide assistance to the club ahead of the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Arsenal.
Real Madrid is scheduled to play Alavés away on Sunday in the 32nd round of La Liga, just 72 hours before hosting Arsenal at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Marca revealed that Real Madrid officials tried to move the Alavés match forward, to Saturday instead of Sunday, to give the players a chance to recover and prepare better for the Arsenal match.
Even before the first leg, Los Blancos had submitted a request to move the match forward, after also receiving Alavés’ approval.
But surprisingly, La Liga rejected the request. Officials explained the decision by stating that the request was submitted outside the deadline, and therefore, there was no room for changing the date, regardless of the surrounding circumstances.
The decision by La Liga officials sparked widespread anger within Real Madrid, confirming the ongoing tug of war between Tebas and president Florentino Pérez and the apparent intransigence against Los Blancos.
Real Madrid officials’ anger increased after the 3-0 defeat to the Gunners in the first leg. The players now need to fully concentrate on the second leg and rest, which will not happen due to the timing of the Alavés match.
Real Madrid’s chances of winning the La Liga title remain intact, as they are four points behind Barcelona, making the Alavés match crucial and not allowing any rest for key players.
