Lionel Messi participated in his team Inter Miami’s 3-2 victory over Montreal in the 12th round of the American League competitions.
But for the first time in 12 appearances with Inter Miami in 2024 in all tournaments, the Argentine star failed to score or assist during a match.
Messi had contributed 19 goals in the 9 matches he played with Inter Miami in the American League since the start of this season in March 2024, where he scored 10 goals and assisted 9 others.
Even in the CONCACAF Champions League, Messi scored and assisted against Nashville, as well as assisted a goal in the loss to Monterrey, Mexico, in the second leg.
During the last match before the match against Montreal, Messi wrote history after making 5 goals and scoring another goal during the huge 6-2 victory over the New York Red Bulls.
But against Montreal, the 36-year-old was unable to make a difference, and his friend Luis Suarez took on the responsibility of saving coach Tata Martino’s squad.
Inter Miami trailed by two goals, but Matias Rojas, Luis Suarez and Benja Crimachi came back with the American team from afar and scored three goals through which Inter Miami achieved three valuable points.
It remains to be noted that Inter Miami leads the Eastern Group standings of the American League with 27 points, 3 points behind the closest competitor, Cincinnati.
