Mundo Deportivo reported that Marc-André ter Stegen participated in Barcelona’s first group training session on Monday, making his return closer than ever.
The German goalkeeper suffered a torn knee ligament last September, and due to his prolonged absence, Barça signed Szczesny to replace him in goal.
Ter Stegen was expected to be out for the rest of the season, specifically for eight months, but surprisingly, the German goalkeeper made an early recovery thanks to his disciplined treatment program.
According to the report, Barcelona is not rushing to get Ter Stegen back on the pitch, and the intention is for him to continue training gradually until he is ready to participate in matches by the end of April.
It’s worth noting that Hansi Flick and Joan Laporta’s management have no intention of returning Szczesny to the bench and replacing Ter Stegen upon his return from injury. However, it will take a few matches for him to fully recover, with competition between the two goalkeepers set to begin next season.
The 32-year-old has participated in the first seven matches of this season, contributing to six La Liga wins and one defeat for the Blaugrana, against Monaco in the Champions League.
