After 258 days without defeat.. Real Madrid fall in Lille and Ancelotti admits failure

Real Madrid’s 36-match unbeaten streak in all competitions has ended, after the royal club suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Lille in the second round of the Champions League.

The last defeat suffered by Real was last season at the hands of Atletico Madrid in the King’s Cup, and since then the Merengues have not been defeated in any match in all competitions for 258 days.

Carlo Ancelotti commented on the defeat against Lille, saying, “Lille were the best and deserved to win, we could have equalized in the last moments but it was not deserved to be honest.”

He also added, “It is really difficult to analyze the match, we were bad in all aspects, we did not create chances or have possession of the ball, we were almost without ideas.”

He continued, “It is a bad match, we showed a bad image and we have bad feelings, there is no excuse for what happened, we have to improve.”

“I accept the criticism completely, we were very bad, but I say that the defeat against Atletico Madrid last January helped us change, we hope that will happen today too.”

Real Madrid will face Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday in La Liga after drawing 1-1 with Atletico Madrid last round.
