Arsenal’s management has reached an agreement with Andrea Berta to take over as the English club’s sporting director with immediate effect.
Arsenal was heavily criticized in the last summer transfer period for concluding a small number of deals, and then the former sporting director Edu resigned.
Arsenal was in dire need of signing any striker in the winter, but the club failed to do so as well, which negatively affected Mikel Arteta’s squad in all tournaments.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal’s management decided to contract a new sporting director to handle the transfers, and completed the agreement with Berta.
Berta has extensive experience, as he worked at Atletico Madrid from 2013 until last January, and was supervising most, if not all, of the major deals for the Rojiblancos.
The Italian’s first task will be to sign a clear striker next summer, specifically Newcastle star Alexander Isak.
It is noteworthy that Arsenal only included Riccardo Calafiore, Mikel Moreno and Raheem Sterling last summer.
