Questions have multiplied about Vinicius Junior’s position in participating in the Spanish Super Cup with Real Madrid, after the expulsion he received in the Valencia match in La Liga.
Catalan media reported that the Real Madrid star’s punishment could reach a 12-match suspension if the referee recorded in his report that he assaulted the Valencia goalkeeper and then attacked the referee severely.
However, the newspaper “Marca” confirmed, quoting a source within the Spanish Football Federation, that Vinicius’ punishment will be a two-match suspension only.
Vinicius’ actions were not considered an assault on Dimitrievski, after the provocation factor by the Bats goalkeeper was taken into account.
In general, the suspension penalty will only be in La Liga matches, meaning that Vinicius can participate against Real Mallorca in the semi-finals of the Spanish Super Cup, and the final match if Carlo Ancelotti’s squad wins.
Therefore, Vinicius will definitely miss the matches against Las Palmas and Valladolid in La Liga.
Real Madrid’s management plans to appeal the decision to send off Vinicius, while the punishment is scheduled to be officially announced, whether a two-match suspension or less or more, next Tuesday.
