Al-Ahly continued to write history in its own way, after qualifying for the final match of the 2024 African Champions League following a 3-0 victory over Mazembe in the second leg of the semi-final.
This was Al-Ahly’s fifth consecutive qualification to the Champions League final, and the Red Giants maintain their title-winning status on 11 previous occasions, most recently in last season’s edition against Moroccan Wydad.
In general, Al-Ahly reached the “African Princess” final 17 times, thus equaling the record set by Real Madrid as the most to reach the continental finals.
Real Madrid is superior in that it has won the Champions League title 14 times out of the 17 finals it has played, while Al-Ahly has won the title 11 times and lost it 5 other times.
Real Madrid has the opportunity to set a new record and surpass Al-Ahly if it succeeds in reaching the Champions League final this season.
The Royal Club will meet Bayern Munich in the semi-finals over the next two weeks, with the first leg being held at the Allianz Arena and the second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu.
It is noteworthy that Boca Juniors is the third most club to qualify for continental finals, with the Argentine club reaching the Copa Libertadores final 12 times.
