Pachuca pulled off a major surprise after eliminating Botafogo from the 2024 Intercontinental Cup by beating them 3-0 at the 974 Stadium in Qatar.
Pachuca is participating as the CONCACAF Champions League champion, while Botafogo is the champion of the recent Copa Libertadores.
FIFA called this match the “Derby of the Americas Cup”, and all expectations were in the direction of an easy victory for Botafogo, who also recently won the Brazilian league title.
But Pachuca surprised everyone and succeeded in achieving a clean three-goal victory, starting with Osama Idrissi in the 60th minute and completed by Nelson Diosa and Rondon in the 66th and 80th minutes.

With Pachuca’s victory, it achieves the Derby of the Americas Cup on the one hand, and qualifies for the semi-finals of the Intercontinental Cup 2024, or what is known as the Challenge Cup.
The Mexican club will meet Al-Ahly of Egypt, the champion of Africa, Asia and the Pacific, who defeated Al-Ain of the Emirates in Cairo 3-0 in the quarter-finals.
The date of the Al-Ahly and Pachuca match will be next Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the 974 Stadium.
The match will start at seven o’clock in the evening Cairo time, eight o’clock Mecca and Doha time.
It is worth noting that Al-Ahly previously met Pachuca in the 2008 Club World Cup, where it lost 4-2 in the first round.
