The newspaper “Marca” reported that Al-Nassr officials had contacted the agent of Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk and offered him a huge offer to join the ranks of the Saudi club this summer.
The Dutch defender’s contract at Anfield is still extended until the summer of 2025, and in principle, Liverpool would not mind his departure this summer if it would generate a lot of money in the English club’s coffers.
Negotiations between Al-Nassr and Van Dijk began in recent days through the new sporting director of Fares Najd, Fernando Hierro, who is said to have given the 32-year-old a financial offer that could not be rejected.
In this regard, the salary that Van Dijk will receive in Al-Nassr has not been specifically revealed, but “Marca” confirmed that he will be the highest-paid defender in the world.
It is not yet clear what Van Dijk’s response was and whether he welcomed the idea of moving to the Saudi League or not, and all things may happen in the next few weeks.
Strangely enough, the relationship between Van Dijk and Cristiano Ronaldo is very bad, which makes him joining “The Don” in coach Luis Castro’s squad is not a good idea.
Van Dijk had previously mocked Ronaldo when they were competing for the best awards in 2019. He also declared more than once that Lionel Messi was better than the Portuguese, in addition to more than one quarrel that broke out between them in Liverpool and Manchester United matches.
It is noteworthy that Al-Nassr is trying by all means to sign a world-class centre-back, and his name is also linked, alongside Van Dijk, to Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger.
It remains to be noted that the Saudi club is in the process of finalizing its first summer deal by signing the goalkeeper of Juventus and the Polish national team, Wojciech Szczesny.
