Al-Nassr star Aymeric Laporte has threatened to call for a general strike for football players in protest against the exaggerated number of matches that threaten their lives.
Laporte is not the first to make such a call, as his compatriot Rodri preceded him and then suffered a cruciate ligament injury and will be absent until the end of the season as a result.
In general, football players, especially this season, suffer from many injuries due to the lack of a sufficient rest period before the start of the season, in addition to the unprecedented increase in the number of matches in history.
Laporte said about this, “It seems that the strike is the only solution that the players see to stop the pressure of matches.”
He continued, “We are playing an exaggerated number of matches, the pace is fast and there is no opportunity to rest, there must be a solution to this matter soon.”
It is noteworthy that the Spanish international joined Al-Nassr in the summer of 2023 from Manchester City, and is currently playing with the Saudi club two matches per week between the league and the AFC Champions League or the King’s Cup.
