Algeria Gifts Arabs the First Gold Medal at Paris 2024 Olympics

Arabs finally achieved their first gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics thanks to Algeria’s Kaylia Nemour in artistic gymnastics.

Nemour clinched the gold after scoring 15.700 points in the uneven bars competition.

The 18-year-old has a touching story. She was in the Tokyo Olympics with French nationality (her mother’s nationality) but after suffering an injury, the French federation refused to register her.

Thanks to her Algerian father’s nationality, Kaylia Nemour was able to represent Algeria and won her first gold medal in gymnastics in the history of the Desert Warriors, and the first for Algeria in general since London 2012.

Overall, this is the fourth Arab medal at the Paris Olympics after the silver of Tunisian Faris Ferjani, the bronze of Egyptian Mohamed Sayed, and the confirmed medal for Algerian boxer Iman Khelif.
