Surprisingly, Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has welcomed his club’s signing of goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili to become the Reds’ goalkeeper of the future.
Liverpool’s management agreed to buy Mamardashvili for 35 million euros, with a season-long loan to Valencia, after which he will return to succeed Alisson.
When asked about his opinion on this move, the Brazilian goalkeeper told The Times, “It is the club’s right to prepare for the future, of course, I will not stay here forever.”
He continued, “I am getting older now and of course I will get old, but for a goalkeeper, I am still young and I have a lot to offer Liverpool.”
He added, “Liverpool informed me of their desire to sign Mamardashvili even before the news was published on social media, and I think signing him is a good idea.”
He concluded, “Liverpool handled it well when they told me about the deal, I felt that the club cares about my opinion here, and that’s very good.”
As for his future and the Saudi offer, he said, “When the interest from Saudi Arabia came, I couldn’t close the door to a big deal, but my decision was always to stay and focus on the things we can achieve.”
He continued, “I think I’m open to joining the Saudi league, but not now.”
