Amad Diallo was the star of the match between Manchester United and Southampton, after scoring a hat-trick that turned the Red Devils’ one-goal deficit into a precious three-goal victory in the English Premier League.
Thanks to this hat-trick, the Ivorian star ended a curse that lasted at Old Trafford for 3 years, which is the inability of a player to score three goals in a single match.
Cristiano Ronaldo was the last to score a hat-trick for United, when he scored a hat-trick against Norwich City in April 2022, and since then the Red Team players have been unable to repeat it.
In the end, Diallo came and broke the “Don’s curse” with a valuable hat-trick that raised his total scoring contributions with Ruben Amorim’s squad this season to 16 goals, scoring 9 and creating 7 others.
The 22-year-old joins a list of Premier League and United legends to have scored a hat-trick in the last 10 minutes of a Premier League match. Diallo is only the third to do so after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 1999 and Wayne Rooney in 2010, against Nottingham Forest and Hull City respectively.
