The international media agreed that Liverpool has chosen current Feyenoord coach Arne Slott to be Jurgen Klopp’s successor as coach of the Reds starting next season.
Many names have been put forward since the German announced his departure in early 2024, and one of the most prominent was Xabi Alonso, but the Spaniard chose to continue with Bayer Leverkusen for another year.
Now, talks between Liverpool and Slot have already begun and have reached advanced stages, with everything indicating that the Dutch coach will be the one who will assume technical leadership at Anfield.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Liverpool administration has already begun communicating with its counterpart in Feyenoord in order to reach an agreement under which the coach will transfer to the English club.
There is no release clause in Slot’s contract with Feyenoord, but the Dutch club could allow him to leave if an agreement is reached with Liverpool on compensation, which is currently being discussed.
Slot is 45 years old and has coached only Alkmaar and Feyenoord in the Netherlands, and the best thing he achieved in his career was winning the Dutch League title and the Cup last season.
This season, Slot led Feyenoord in 43 matches in all tournaments, winning 28 of them and drawing 7 others while suffering only 8 defeats, and achieved second place in the Dutch League.
